Food

    Meals at Ryde School are taken in our award winning purpose-built dining hall which has stunning views over the Solent. Pupils choose from a wide variety of foods and eat with their friends and teachers.

    Pupils at Fiveways eat in their own dining room where teaching staff eat with them, helping to instill table manners and a respect for healthy food choices. A dedicated kitchen staff in their own kitchen on Fiveways premises ensures food is tailored to younger tastes.

    Junior pupils eat their lunch in the Senior School dining hall 45 minutes before the Senior School, ensuring a non-rushed meal and the ability for staff to help with food choices and table manners.

    Senior School pupils have two lunch sittings each day to allow for lunch time clubs and to ensure a comfortable number of pupils in the dining hall at any time. 

    Bembridge Boarders eat their breakfast and supper at their boarding houses and their lunch at the School before returning home to their houses during the school week.

    Spinnaker Boarders eat their breakfast, lunch and supper in School during the week.

    Cosy and well-appointed kitchens are situated at both boarding houses to allow pupils to make hot and cold drinks, snacks and light meals if desired. Weekend meals are taken at the Boarding Houses. 

    Almost all of our food is cooked from scratch, in-house by our team of skilled chefs, using fresh ingredients and using local suppliers wherever possible.  We happily cater for pupils with special dietary needs such as dairy/lactose intolerance, gluten-free diets.

    We pride ourselves on achieving a 5 star Health and Hygiene rating.  The healthy diet of pupils is promoted by our commitment to providing an outstanding nutritional provision delivered by our enthusiastic kitchen staff.  Pupils' cultural, religious and health needs are fully met through the wide-ranging choice of meals on offer.

    We offer a three week rolling menu that changes each term, and although this can occasionally be subject to some variation, the general format remains the same.

    Breakfast

    Breakfast is served from 8.00am - 8.40am Monday to Friday

    In our dining room we offer a daily breakfast with a cereal counter, a hot selection which can include bacon, eggs, baked beans, mushrooms and tomatoes, as well as the option of a continental breakfast, toast, yoghurt, fresh fruit and hot and cold drinks.

    Break time offer

    • freshly made sandwiches and baguettes, wraps & paninis
    • toasted sandwiches, bacon/sausage baps, hot pasta dish
    • selection of homemade cakes, fresh fruit, yoghurts
    • hot & cold drinks

    Lunch

    • two hot meat choices and a vegetarian choice
    • jacket potatoes and a fully stocked salad bar
    • homemade soup and bread
    • fresh fruit, fruit jellies, yoghurt and hot/cold puddings made by our in house pastry chef 

    In addition, we offer freshly-made baguettes, sandwiches, wraps, speciality filled breads & paninis which can be eaten in or taken away from the Dining Room.

    Supper Club

    Supper is served from 5.00pm - 5.45pm Monday to Thursday

    We offer a daily Supper Club which is available to all pupils who are perhaps staying late at school for prep, sports fixtures or after-school clubs. 

    Whilst the range of food on offer at supper is similar to lunch, we feel this is a time for pupils to relax and an opportunity for the chefs to interact more with pupils. There is usually a selection of two hot dishes, a vegetarian/vegan dish, fresh vegetables and potatoes, and a selection of salads

    There is also a selection of desserts, including a hot pudding, fresh fruit, yoghurts and a choice of hot and cold beverages.
