We currently have a Squash Club on a Tuesday, which runs from 4 to 5 at Westridge Squash Centre. We usually take one minibus and so can accommodate up to 16 students. The session begins with a warm up, continue with routines focusing on a shot or sequence of shots and conclude with games.
We have two coaches; Adam Dominey, the Island professional coach and Peter Johnson, a level 2 coach who teaches Maths at the School. A ladder is run, where students are ranked in order and have the opportunity to challenge higher up the ladder each half term. We encourage students to take part in Island wide competitions which are run by the Isle of Wight Squash Academy, run by Adam.
We enter a team into the National Schools Squash Championship each year and play matches against other schools. The sport is thriving at School and there is an appetite for more squash.
Squash is also an option sport on a Wednesday afternoon, which is well supported.
Squash is a great sport for fitness and movement. It is physical and mental, demanding commitment from players and a high level of ball skills. Come along and try!
