Years 10 & 11

Curriculum for Years 10 and 11

Pupils study an optimum number of ten subjects at GCSE and there are opportunities for them to exercise their own choices within the specified categories. The core subject requirements ensure that the pupils’ GCSE choices are broad and balanced. All pupils in Years 10 and 11 study for the English Bacc. This means studying a core of Mathematics, English Language & English Literature, Science, History or Geography and a modern language.

Science (Biology, Chemisty and Physics) is taught either to two or three certificates depending on interest. In addtion three options are chosen from the following: Art, Business Studies, Computer Sceince, Design & Technology, Drama, Geography/History (if the pupil wants to study both subjects as one is already selected in the core), Music, Academic P.E., German, Latin, French, Mandarin and Spanish.

In addition to their academic studies, pupils have two hours a week of timetabled Sport and Personal Development.  Pupils who would benefit from additional Maths and English support can choose this as an option within the curriculum. Pupils are encouraged to join the Combined Cadet Force or the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme which they will start at the end of Year 9.
