Environmental Science
Environmental Science is offered, particularly suiting pupils who wish to maintain one science course or use it to facilitate their progress in other associated A levels.
The subject is taught by two well-qualified and experienced members of staff. A variety of teaching and learning strategies are employed, with an
expectation of facilitated independent learning in order to prepare students for future studies and careers. The course culminates in an individual project, which usually involves tackling a current local issue.
The subject should be approached in a holistic manner, as it draws upon a vast number of subject areas. These include Geography, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Physics and Maths; this allows pupils to tackle modern environmental issues with scientific methodology.
The departmental ethos revolves around the application of knowledge in the real world, so many visits are undertaken. These include trips to an organic farm, a rare breeds farm, a commercial tomato greenhouse, a landfill site, a forest, a coppice, a saltmarsh and a river.
