General Studies
The General Studies A level is an exciting opportunity to learn to ‘think’. It embraces much of the content of an AS Philosophy course while maintaining a broader view of society, scientific development, ethics and the Arts. Content ranging from aesthetic evaluation to political censorship will fascinate those with real intellectual curiosity.
The course is highly desirable for those aspiring to Oxbridge or to universities where interviews include an assessment of the ability to reason.
In teaching reasoning skills, the course supports all subjects in the Arts and Humanities and it provides a good balance for the science student.
The breadth of content in the four modules frequently allows for pupil led presentations and discussion. The AS is taken in term one of the Upper Sixth and the A2 at the end of the summer in the Upper Sixth.
