MFL
The Modern Languages Department is well-resourced with up-to-date course books and fully equipped classrooms, including TV/DVD players, audio equipment and projectors in all the rooms, with smart boards in three classrooms. We also make full use of the Internet and pupils have access to subscription-only languages sites, which they are also encouraged to use in their own time.
The Sixth Form
French and Spanish are taught to A level, currently following the OCR specification. From September 2008, the course followed for the new AS, will be AQA. The courses are drawn from a variety of up-to-date resources and use of the Internet is encouraged. The Library also has materials and subscription magazines to encourage self-supported learning. An extensive range of videos and DVDs are available to borrow from the Department. AS and A2 French pupils have one period per week conversation with a native French speaker.
Extra-Curricular
A highly successful French Exchange visit to Avignon is available for pupils in Year 8. They are committed from Year 7, when the correspondence with a class in France begins. Other trips are also planned.
