Introduction
The Boarding Experience at Ryde School is a happy one, where staff and pupils know each other well. Together they form a close-knit, happy, interdependent community of children and adults, in which independence and social skills are developed and where every individual shares an equal responsibility for the community’s overall well-being and progress. The safety, happiness and security of the students in our care is of paramount importance to us.
Within a small but thriving boarding community, we are able to provide a very happy and homely atmosphere, which is closer to a true family environment than that of many larger boarding schools. Good relationships form the basis of the genuine ‘extended family’ atmosphere found in the house.
Living together offers a rich, 24 hour life experience. Our boarders learn to live and work alongside each other. The camaraderie they experience is of great value to them, with friendships being formed from within a multi-cultural environment. In many cases the bond is so strong, that life-long friendships are developed and maintained throughout the global community.
The boarding houses are staffed by highly qualified, caring individuals who have a wealth of experience in looking after children who are away from home. We pride ourselves in delivering an outstanding level of pastoral care, highly praised in recent Inspections. We understand the importance of maintaining both written and verbal communication with parents to ensure they remain closely involved in their child’s development and upbringing. The Head of Boarding regularly liaises with Parents, Guardians, Form Tutors and other staff to ensure the well-being of each student. Written reports are also sent to parents throughout the term.
The school welcomes a small number of Overseas students, and is positively enriched by having the opportunity to exchange ideas and cultural perspectives with students from many different countries. The boarding houses are warm, comfortable and welcoming. The atmosphere is calm and relaxed, with the emphasis on family values and friendly, well-ordered supervision. An exciting programme of weekend and evening activities are available. Many inter-house competitions throughout the year engender friendly rivalry and are enjoyed by the boarding community as a whole. Structured supervised study times and a wealth of opportunities to compliment the academic programme are also on offer.
