Assemblies
Every Monday and Friday, morning registration is followed by a full school assembly. The format of these assemblies is normally a social, moral, spiritual or cultural theme followed by news of sports fixtures, concerts, expeditions and forthcoming activities and events. Assemblies are also used to celebrate pupil and staff birthdays and to say farewell to those leaving the school community.
School assemblies are predominantly led by the Headmaster, Deputy Headmaster, Senior Teachers or Chaplain. However, all staff are invited to participate and the School Council have responsibility for nominating several assembly themes each term.
There is a third assembly slot each week on Wednesday mornings and this is used for Year assembly, Section assembly or House assembly by rotation. Year groups are organised into three sections; Years 7 and 8 make up Lower Section; Years 9, 10 and 11 make up Upper Section, and Years 12 and 13 come together as the Sixth Form. Wednesday morning assemblies are directed by the Heads of Year and Heads of House and are used primarily to celebrate Year and House achievements respectively as well as to plan for House competitions and excursions. The Deputy Headmaster is responsible for Upper Section assemblies.
All staff and pupils are actively encouraged to play a full role in all assemblies.
