School Council

Each tutor group annually elects two School Council Representatives and two Form Captains, normally one girl and one boy for each. Their job descriptions are as follows:

The School Council meets fortnightly during tutor time and is chaired by prefects. The Deputy Headmaster and Senior Teacher responsible for Girls’ Pastoral Care are also normally present. Representatives raise issues of concern, which are discussed and minuted and then forwarded to relevant members of staff via the Deputy Headmaster and Bursar. The Deputy Headmaster and Bursar meet regularly to discuss School Council suggestions. The Council may also be asked for opinion on proposed changes at school or to complete regular pupil questionnaires on school improvement. Each term, the School Council suggests themes for several full school assemblies. These are usually current and of particular interest to the pupil body. Recent ideas have included recycling and eating disorders.

One of the prefects in charge of the Council has particular responsibility for managing the web based School Council Forum. Common concerns raised on the Forum are brought to the attention of the full Council at the next fortnightly meeting. All meeting minutes are posted on the website.

The School Council have been responsible for a number of changes at school including:

Several School Council Representatives, one per year group, also sit on the School’s Catering Committee with:
