Part time, Term time (Job Share considered)
Do you enjoy working outdoors, meeting lots of people and feeling like a part of a community? Ryde School is actively looking for someone to join us in the role of School Crossing Patroller to provide a valuable service to our pupils assisting them to cross the road safely as they go to and from school.
You will work from a designated crossing site, standing for long periods and holding the ‘lollipop’ pole in all weather conditions. As you would expect, this job will expose you to traffic noise and fumes, and you will be required to carry out procedures for safely stopping vehicles, using your judgement to assess the stopping times of traffic in differing weather conditions.
You will be someone that we can rely upon to maintain control over children and pedestrians who will await your instructions to cross the road safely. You will be confident, calm under pressure, and approachable as you quickly become a familiar face to parents and all members of our school community.
There are no specific qualifications required for this role, but the ideal candidate will be a good communicator who is able to follow written instructions and procedures, and record incident information as and when necessary. A good understanding of relevant sections of the highway code would also be advantageous. The successful candidate will enjoy being of service to others and will be offered daily term-time work with regular pay for twelve months of the year.
