Inquiry and problem solving are at the heart of the subject. Students explore many relevant topics in today’s world in which the nature of the subject bridges theory with practice. Students demonstrate their investigative, analytical, design thinking, design development, prototyping, testing and evaluation skills and mirror the design
processes used across the various industries that integrate design practice.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTSGCSE Design Technology Grade 6 or above. Students who have not studied “My favourite subject since Year 7, mainly due to its versatility and balance between creativity and academic topics. The range of practical skills include welding, painting, veneering and even laser cutting; it’s the perfect choice for someone looking to broaden their outlook.” WHERE THIS SUBJECT CAN TAKE YOUArchitecture, Product Design, Interior Design, Engineering, Town Planning, Teacher, Automotive Design, Interior Architect, Structural Engineer, Marine Engineer, Yacht and Ship Design. COURSE CONTENT/STRUCTUREA Level Design and Technology equips students with design skills for the future. At A level students will have the confidence to innovate and produce creative design solutions as they develop their own design brief with a client/end user. Students follow an iterative design process to develop and modify designs, and to design and make prototypes that solve real world problems, considering their own and others’ needs, wants, aspirations and values.
