Boarding
Boarding
When you join Ryde as a boarder, you aren’t just moving to a school, you are joining a vibrant, friendly and fun global family.
Boarding at Ryde is designed to inspire. We encourage our pupils to become independent, open-minded and principled thinkers, all within a nurturing environment where family values sit at our core.
Your child’s well-being is our paramount priority; we help them strike the perfect work-life balance and empower them to become proactive, compassionate leaders in a supportive community.
A True Home Away From Home
Our boarders are guided and supported by a dedicated team of residential staff who deliver an exceptional level of pastoral care. By blending British and international boarders, we’ve created a genuinely diverse yet tightly-knit community where friendships develop quickly within the boarding community but importantly the wider school.
We regularly welcome children from military families and are proud to offer a tailored armed forces boarding package. Explore our Forces Families Package.
Ryde Boarding at a Glance
- At least 12 different nationalities living and learning together.
- 90% of our boarders choose to stay over the weekend.
- No Exeat weekends, with convenient half-term stay options available.
- Our latest Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) report noted that “Boarders quickly settle into a supportive boarding community where friendships thrive.”
Our boarders live in two beautifully appointed, co-educational houses on campus, each specifically designed to match the changing needs of pupils as they grow and mature. Both Millfield and Centenary operate as co-educational houses, where boys and girls live together under one roof with accommodation arranged on clearly defined, separate single-sex sleeping corridors.
This co-educational boarding environment offers unique and lasting benefits for our pupils:
- A Real-World Mirror: It mirrors a natural family home and perfectly reflects the modern university and professional worlds they will step into.
- Healthier Social Dynamics: Living together in a shared community breaks down social barriers, promotes natural, healthy, and respectful friendships between genders, and fosters an exceptional level of mutual respect and emotional intelligence.

Boarding Options
Use the dropdowns below to see the Boarding Options at Ryde School.
Full boarders benefit from a range of activities and experiences, allowing them to develop skills and interests beyond the academic curriculum.
The environment encourages a firm sense of community and develops confidence, social skills, independence, self-motivation, and cultural awareness. Unlike many schools, boarders can stay during one-week half-terms and there are no exeats.
Weekly boarders may go home directly after school on Friday, returning to the boarding houses on Sunday evening.
Alternatively, they may choose to return directly to school on Monday morning. Weekly boarders have their own living space where their possessions remain.
Flexi boarding offers the benefits of a boarding education for part of the week and is also useful for pupils with additional sporting, music, drama, or other extracurricular commitments.
Parents can book for single or multiple nights. Billing is per night.
Day pupils are also encouraged to try flexi boarding to see if full boarding may be something that suits their needs later as they progress through the school.
Food
Boarders eat their breakfast, supper, and weekend meals in the Dining Hall and have well-stocked kitchens in both boarding houses to create snacks and other meals for themselves. Meals are cooked from scratch by our skilled chefs, using fresh ingredients and sourced from preferred local suppliers.
We are also able to cater for special dietary needs (e.g., dairy / lactose intolerance, gluten-free). Please let us know when registering your child for Ryde.
