Head Master’s Welcome
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to Ryde School with Upper Chine. Since our foundation in 1921, we have proudly educated generations of young people from the Isle of Wight and beyond.
From our very beginning, we have believed that a truly exceptional education extends far beyond outstanding exam results. We pride ourselves on providing a rounded, holistic experience that develops the whole child.
Underpinning this approach are our core school values: ambition, responsibility, courage, and respect. These are not merely words on a page; they are the essential principles lived out daily by our whole community, ensuring pupils flourish here and wherever life takes them. Equally vital is our motto, ‘Ut Prosim’ (That I may be of service). Through dedicated community service opportunities, every Rydeian learns the profound importance of helping others and contributing meaningfully to society.
As the leading independent day and boarding school on the Isle of Wight, we provide a nurturing environment for children aged 2 to 18. Our vibrant community is wonderfully diverse, welcoming pupils from across the Island, those who cross the Solent daily from Portsmouth and the surrounding areas, and a thriving boarding community of pupils from various parts of the UK and the wider world.
We are also incredibly fortunate to be situated in such a beautiful setting. The rich environment of the Isle of Wight provides a vast array of educational opportunities for exploration, which our pupils benefit from significantly. We combine this with an international mindset as an IB World School and to that end we are an island school with a global outlook.
