Lower Prep (Ages 4 to 7)
Lower Prep marks the beginning of an exciting educational journey, offering a gentle, confident transition from nursery into school life. Centered around a close-knit community atmosphere, our dedicated team and inviting learning spaces help children feel relaxed, secure, and ready to reach their full potential.
Our dynamic Creative Curriculum brings learning to life by linking subjects seamlessly through immersive termly themes.
Our Dynamic launch which we call, ‘Stunning Starts’ ignite curiosity and spark enthusiasm right from day one. ‘Marvellous Middles’ provides interactive opportunities for children to reflect, explore, and deepen their understanding. Finally ‘Fabulous Finishes’ celebrates milestones that unite learning, showcasing newly acquired skills and achievements.
Every year group shares the same overarching termly theme, encouraging collaboration, peer-to-peer mentorship, and shared experiences across ages. Supported by clear social expectations, our children strive to do their best while championing one another along the way. Learning at Lower Prep extends well beyond the classroom. From hands-on exploration in our dedicated Nature Zone to discovering the rich heritage of our Island, outdoor discovery is woven into every child’s day.
Reception Year
Reception offers a calm, nurturing environment where children learn through interactive indoor play opportunities and exploring within our outdoor spaces. With a focus on curiosity, communication, and tailored support, teachers build strong parent partnerships and take time to know every child, creating a safe, close-knit community where pupils thrive.
Years 1 & 2 (KS1) – What we call Lower Prep
In Year 1, we build on each child’s Early Learning Goals, nurturing creative minds and deep thinkers in a safe, positive environment. Practical lessons build concrete understanding, while targeted opportunities encourage children to try new things, build confidence, and succeed at their own pace emotionally, socially, and academically.
In Year 2, learning truly comes alive! Our Creative Curriculum seamlessly weaves humanities, science and the arts together through hands-on learning, outdoor discovery, mainland trips and visiting experts. Children shine in our on-site theatre, taking Christmas show speaking roles and presenting their own assemblies to peers. It’s an unforgettable year!
A day may include a lesson of Mandarin or Spanish, an opportunity to play a cello or violin, the chance to run around a running track, swing a cricket bat, or create a ‘Log Book’ in the forest.
Learning Support
Our friendly, professional and highly experienced Learning Support team provide additional support to children from Nursery and throughout the Prep. The staff work with the children, their teachers and parents ensuring the level of support is place whatever that may be. Importantly when children move to the Senior School the transition is simple and smooth as every child is known to the Learning Support team.
