Senior School
Wellbeing & Support
In the Senior School the Form Tutor remains central to our pastoral care in the Senior School, serving as the primary point of contact for parents and fostering open, trusting communication with pupils. Each pupil belongs to a dedicated Tutor Group through to Year 11, with specialised, tailored tutorial support continuing into the Sixth Form.
“We are so thrilled to win this award! It’s a wonderful testament to the daily dedication of our entire Ryde community. We believe emotional resilience and mental clarity are key foundations for academic success and personal growth.
This award celebrates an ongoing, inclusive culture where every pupil and staff member feels safe, valued, and heard. This work is very much at the heart of school life at Ryde and we will continue to do everything we can to nurture and support well-rounded individuals across our school community.”

A Network of Support
Pastoral care at Ryde is multi-layered. Beyond Form Tutors, pupils are supported by:
- Heads of Year and Heads of Section
- The Head of Senior School and Head of Pastoral Care
- Peer Mentoring: Sixth Form pupils receive professional coaching training to lead, mentor, and support younger students, providing a friendly, accessible layer of student-to-student contact.
- Pupils likewise benefit from tailored one-to-one coaching sessions from members of the Pastoral Team.
Personal Development
Our Personal Development programme throughout the School is designed to cultivate self-confidence and self-awareness, empowering children to perform at their best and make positive life choices to prepare them for our ever changing world.
Our entire curriculum is underpinned by character education, covering everything from:
- Being Safe
- Healthy Mind Body and Soul
- Living in the wider world with global outlook
- Being respectful
- Community project
- This is all delivered in age appropriate ways through a spiralled curriculum throughout the school. These can cover academic and personal targets.
Health and Wellbeing
We are proud to support our community through our purpose-built Health and Wellbeing Centre located within the school grounds and our Heart Centre that is located in the Prep School.
Our comprehensive medical and emotional support network includes:
- The School Matron: Providing dedicated medical and Mental Health support in addition to first-aid services.

- A Culture of Coaching: Ryde is a nationally recognised coaching school, with a significant number of our staff members fully trained as professional coaches to guide pupils through challenges.
Open Communication with Parents
We firmly believe that excellent pastoral care is a partnership. Parents are always warmly welcome and encouraged to speak with members of staff to discuss any matters concerning their child’s wellbeing.
