As Head of the Senior School I am justifiably proud of our examination results and university destinations, but these are by no means the only measure of our success; our purpose is to help our pupils grow as independent, confident individuals with ambition and purpose and the well-rounded education your child receives at Ryde ensures that they are prepared for life beyond school.
We offer a curriculum that ensures all pupils enjoy an education that is broad and rigorous and aims to maximise individual success for all our students.

Pastoral Care & Wellbeing
When children are happy, they thrive and therefore a Ryde School education is built upon a foundation of exceptional care, confidence and community spirit. Our award winning pastoral support is designed to nurture confident, compassionate, and globally aware individuals who are ready to make a difference in the world. Central to this journey is the Form Tutor, who serves as the primary point of contact for parents and fosters a trusted, open line of communication with every pupil. Supported by a dedicated network including Heads of Year, our Director of Health and Wellbeing, the Chaplaincy Team, and school Matron we ensure that every individual is heard, valued and empowered to thrive.
Academic Life
Our senior pupils follow a broad, rich yet balanced curriculum in the lower years before studying GCSEs in Years 10 and 11.
Where each individual pupil is known they are supported to achieve their very best at every stage. Whilst elements of our curriculum our compulsory for all, breadth and optionality are also available. The vast majority of our students will study nine GCSEs, allowing them to concentrate on the quality of the grades they achieve as opposed to the quantity of subjects they study.
Our goal is to ensure that they are well prepared for their future, whatever path they choose.
Co-curricular Life
Pupils benefit most when they immerse themselves fully in the extra-curricular life of the School; education isn’t just academic teaching, it is enriched with performing on the stage, being part of a sports team, joining debates or through acts of service in the community.
From their start in Year 7, our pupils are encouraged to dive into a wide variety of activities, where there is something for every interest and they are given the space and support to specialise and follow their specific talents and interests as they move through the school.
Sport at Ryde School
Sport is a vital part of your child’s Ryde experience, be it for their personal wellbeing or to challenge themselves and compete in various sports which includes rugby, football and sailing. Most of our competitive matches against mainland teams take place on Saturdays. Pupils are expected to make themselves available for these fixtures during term time, fostering a strong sense of teamwork, pride, and school spirit.
Performing Arts at Ryde School
Ryde School holds a long-standing reputation as a centre of excellence for the Performing Arts, led by a team of highly experienced and dedicated practitioners. Over 75% of senior pupils participate in co-curricular Performing Arts activities annually, finding their place to shine whether they are capturing the spotlight on stage or managing the magic behind the scenes in stage management, sound, lighting, and production design. From this vibrant foundation, we present an ambitious and diverse annual season of plays, musicals, and concerts that fully involve students of all ages.
Futures
The next steps Whilst the majority of our pupils head to universities both in the UK and globally, some choose different pathways such a drama school, music conservatoires and apprenticeships when leaving Ryde School. All are supported to ensure success in their chosen path. Our purpose is to help our pupils grow as independent, confident individuals with ambition and purpose and the well-rounded education your child receives at Ryde ensures resilience, confidence and a desire to learn both in and outside of the classroom.
Individually pupils are guided on all aspects of post-school progression to students and parents. This encompasses UK and global further and higher education advice, alongside guidance on entering employment and all combinations of education and work.
