Millfield House – Boarding for Years 7 to 10
Our renovated Victorian Villa Millfield was opened in January 2020 and is part of the main School campus at Ryde and an elegant addition to our boarding houses. The bedrooms are single, twins or triples, most with en-suite facilities.
The house has a real family feel and, as with any good home, the beautifully designed kitchen is at the heart of the house. The large sitting room and prep areas ensure that study, play and rest are all optimised. There is a large garden with sea views and boarders have access to the school’s facilities and playing fields.
At Ryde, we pride ourselves on delivering an exceptional level of pastoral care and an emphasis on family values and well-ordered supervision. There is a varied programme to allow time for relaxation, effective study and the opportunity to try new and adventurous games, activities and trips.
The boarding accommodation provides comfortable and homely bedrooms, a variety of spacious common areas and places for quiet study. This creates an environment and community where pupils thrive, enabling them to exceed their potential. Numerous extra-curricular activities are available at weekends and during the evenings after prep.
Housemaster of Millfield, Mr Henry Edwards, lives at Millfield with his partner Ms Charlotte Verleure and their dog Rusty.
Centenary House – Boarding for Years 11 to 13
The senior boarding house is an ambitious, modern, purpose-built facility that houses up to 68 boarders in single and twin rooms, most with en-suite facilities.
Built for Year 11 and the Sixth Form it gives students a taste of university life.
The newly constructed boarding house offers light and airy study rooms overlooking the sea, many with breathtaking views. There is a house kitchen, various social and study spaces, and a large common room with direct access to the garden. As the house is within the School grounds, boarders benefit from all the facilities of the School as well as the seaside town of Ryde.
The hovercraft and ferry are close by, providing good and quick transport links to Portsmouth and London.
Boarders have most meals at school in the dining hall. However, at the weekends and at the boarders’ request, they are provided with fresh ingredients so they can cook their own choice of meals in the kitchen at Centenary.
Mike Alderton is Housemaster of Centenary House and a teacher of Physics in the Senior School at Ryde. He lives with his family in a separate part of the new boarding house with his wife and their two children.
