Outdoor Education
Utilising our natural surroundings as part of the children’s daily learning is part and parcel of a Ryde school education.
Our outdoor and Beach School provisions are not occasional field trips or rainy-day alternatives; they are core components of our weekly academic timetable.
Learning Under the Open Sky
We believe that some of the best lessons happen outside the classroom. From Reception to Year 6, our students immerse themselves in the natural world, utilising our extensive onsite grounds, our traditional Yurt, and the island’s ancient forests. This isn’t just play; it’s purposeful discovery. Our pupils master practical woodland skills from foraging and whittling to drilling and shelter building, learning to handle tools with confidence, safety and care. By stepping outside, we foster a spirit of collaboration and curiosity, turning nature into a living laboratory where science, history, and geography topics truly come alive.
Where the Coast Becomes the Classroom
The Isle of Wight isn’t just our location; it’s our greatest teaching tool. From Years 3 to 6, our students trade four walls for the shoreline every single week at Beach School. Whether they are mastering carbon literacy, witnessing coastal erosion in real-time, or acting as stewards of our local marine ecosystem, our pupils don’t just read about geography and science, they roll up their sleeves and experience it. By using our unique coastline to anchor our curriculum, we turn every tide and rockpool into a hands-on adventure, come rain or shine.
