It is my pleasure to welcome you to Ryde School with Upper Chine. For over one hundred years the School has been educating young people from the Isle of Wight and beyond. At the heart of the educational experience here are the elements that make up the Ryde School crest. The torch that symbolises knowledge, learning through experience and exploration, not just books. The three stars for body, mind and soul which represent physical, mental and spiritual learning. The gold represents the excellence to be achieved and the chevrons the reward for doing so, and for building character. This has been at the forefront of the education delivered throughout the School’s history and highlights how there is more to an education than excellent exam results. This is therefore a school that prides itself on a rounded and holistic experience for all its pupils, which was as relevant in 1921 when the School was founded as it is today.
We are very fortunate to have a beautiful setting here on the Isle of Wight. There is much to explore and learn on the Island while being a pupil here, combined with an international outlook beyond the shores of the Solent and English Channel. We are a Round Square and IB World School. To that end, we are an island school with a global outlook. I encourage you to come and visit us to see this for yourself, in the meantime, click here to read our latest news: News
Welcome to Ryde School with Upper Chine. As two students who have been here since Fiveways, we can look back and truly say that the opportunities and community throughout our time here has been incredible. At Ryde we are fortunate enough to have the freedom to explore all the school has to offer. On one side, there is the passionate sports department, always enthusiastic whether you choose hockey, cricket, badminton or become a member of our ever-successful sailing team. There are also many opportunities to perform in plays, concerts, and musicals, throughout your time at Ryde, thanks to the dedicated members of the music and drama departments. The school offers an endless range of other extra-curricular activities and academic subjects in every year group, so regardless of what you’re passionate about, there are staff and resources to support you. As students in our A-Level or IB years, we experience the kind and close community that is Ryde’s Sixth Form, where we’ve gained plenty of responsibility, but also a growing sense of freedom and maturity as we look towards our future after Ryde, whilst being surrounded by support and guidance throughout. Welcome to Ryde!
Welcome to Ryde School and particularly our boarding community. Our two lovely boarding houses, Millfield and Centenary house our Junior and Senior boarders respectively and whilst many of us are full time boarders, we also have weekly boarders and flexi boarders who join us for a couple of days a week or month. We really look forward to welcoming you to Ryde and showing you around our boarding houses.
