We expect all our pupils, whatever their learning disability, to be as independent as possible in order to prepare them for a life beyond school. Our Exams Access Arrangements are there to ensure candidates can achieve to their very best whilst developing habits suitable to the workplace and further study via, for example, computer readers and speech recognition equipment.
Access Arrangements allow candidates with special educational needs to access the assessment without changing the demands of the assessment.
Examination Access Arrangements are regulated by JCQ (Joint Council for Qualifications) and are revised in September annually. The Equality Act 2010 requires an Awarding Body to make reasonable adjustments where a disabled person would be at a substantial disadvantage in undertaking an assessment.
The Head of Learning Support and the Examinations Officer work closely together to ensure that all requests to the examinations boards are completed within the specified time.
A request for access arrangements via the Head of Learning Support can come from teachers, pupils and/or parents. Access Arrangements are recommended to JCQ for approval by the Head of Learning Support, the Director of Learning and the Head Master.
