HEAD OF LEARNING SUPPORT (SENDco)

Ryde School seeks to appoint an experienced and dedicated SENDCO to join our team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate leader to shape our SEND provision and ensure every pupil from Nursery to Upper Sixth thrives. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of special educational needs, a strong commitment to inclusive practices, and the ability to inspire and lead both pupils and staff. 

Ryde School is seeking a dedicated and strategic Head of Learning Support (SENDCo) to lead our SEND provision. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to inclusive practices and the ability to inspire both pupils and staff, ensuring that every child at Ryde School has the opportunity to thrive.

The Role

As a key leader within the school, you will strategically oversee the SEND department and advise the Senior Leadership Group on all related matters. You will:

  • Lead & Inspire: Manage and develop a team of learning support staff, providing regular training and fostering a high-performing environment.

  • Strategise & Manage: Oversee the school’s SEND provision, including budget management, resource allocation, and the maintenance of the SEND register and EHCPs.

  • Support & Assess: Work closely with teachers, parents, and external specialists to identify needs and implement tailored intervention strategies that ensure effective learning outcomes.

  • Collaborate: Partner with Heads of Department to ensure the curriculum is accessible and differentiated, while overseeing Access Arrangements for internal and public examinations.

About You

We are looking for an expert practitioner who balances technical knowledge with exceptional interpersonal skills. You will need:

  • Essential Qualifications: A recognised Teaching Qualification and a SEND qualification (e.g., National Award for SEN Co-ordination).

  • Leadership Experience: Proven experience as a SENDCo or in a significant leadership role within a SEND department, ideally across different educational stages.

  • Expert Knowledge: A deep understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and current UK legislation.

  • Personal Attributes: High professional standards, empathy for the school’s values, and the integrity to build strong relationships with the whole school community.
