A Level Fine Art

Fine Art will demonstrate an understanding and application of formal elements and creative skills. Students will use visual communication sensitively and thoughtfully to document their artistic journey and fully support their intentions. Students will be inspired and explore creativity. Fine Art requires engagement with artistic and intellectual concepts through a range of materials, techniques and processes.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

GCSE Art & Design Grade 6 or above. Students who have not studied
Art and Design at GCSE will be considered on an individual basis following a discussion with the Head of Art.

COURSE CONTENT/STRUCTURE

Component 1: Personal Investigation
A skills-based project exploring a wide range of materials and media, developing a practical and personal investigation leading to multiple outcomes within their specialism and problem solving. Through use of a sketch book, developing and exploring ideas students will reach a final outcome which visually resolves their personal theme.

Component 2: External set assessment
A timed 8 week personal investigation into a given theme by the exam board, developing and exploring ideas, materials and possible outcomes, resulting in a 15 hour timed exam to create a final outcome.

Assessment Objectives
AO1: Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.
AO2: Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops.
AO3: Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.
AO4: Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.
 

ASSESSMENT

Component 1:  This will count for 60% of your total A Level marks.
Component 2:  This will count for 40% of your total A Level marks.
