Detailled Programme Overview
Day One
Arrival day. Collect from the airport and travel to school. Settling and getting to know the School and the island.
Day Two & Three - Keelboat sailing and coaching in Cowes
The heart of our camp's skill building will be based in Cowes - a world reknowned sailing mecca - just a short distance from the School. This intensive two-day programme will be on keelboats, which are larger and more stable boats making them perfect for learning how to sail as part of a crew and handling bigger boats. Team work is critical and these skills are vital in all aspects of life, not just sailing! Helming, trimming sails and navigation with the infamous tides of The Solent will all be covered.
Day Four
Fun, activity day at the Tapnell Farm Aqua Park. Making friends and developing bonds for the week ahead.
Day Five & Six - Swallows and Amazons Adventure
Relive the classic adventure and experience self-sufficient sailing on our island expedition. This two-day adventure blends challenging sailing with rustic outdoor living. Sailors will chart their course and navigate their fleet along the scenic coastline of the Isle of Wight, heading towards East Cowes with expert navigational and sailing tuition throughout the two days. This expedition is more than just a sail; it is character building experience that fosters independence, resourcefulness and teamwork. Dinner will be cooked on a open fire pit before sleeping under the stars in our tented camp for the night.
Day Seven - Round the Island Yacht Race
Experience one of the world's largest and most famous yacht races from a unique perspective; on a high performance RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat).
This is a unique opportunity to gain a tactical perspective and appreciate the scale of competitive yacht racing on the iconic 50 mile course.
Day Eight - Elite Dinghy Training
This intensive session is dedicated entirely to high-performance sailing and is run by experts from the Isle of Wight sailing community. Move beyond the basics and focus on the marginal gains that define champion sailors.
One-to-one feedback including video feedback will analyse the trimming, hiking and balance techniques covered which will help you find that extra gear.
Day Nine - Departure Day
Spend some time at the beach, just a short walk from the school before packing up and heading to the airport with new skills, experiences and memories.
Accommodation
All attendees on the camp will stay in our dedicated boarding house, Millfield House, a beautiful Victorian villa recently refurbished and located on the school campus. Shared rooms, many of which are en-suite, are modern and comfortable.
All meals are plentiful, nutritious with various choice options and cooked on site by our team. Allergies and food intolerances are all catered for.
