A fabulous weekend of Cricket for Ryde

A fabulous weekend of Cricket for Ryde
Sports

Summer is time for cricket.

Saturday 12 June saw Ryde play Chucher's College both home and away. Out of 9 matches Ryde won 5, a great show all round

1st XI vs Churcher's Home

The 1st team had a strong match with some excellent bowling by Freddie (Y11) and Cameron (Y11). Jonah (L6)  bowled well to start with getting some swing. They batted cautiously against him. Unfortunately catches were dropped off Freddie (Y11)  and Cameron (Y11) who both bowled well on a batting wicket. Oliver (L6)  was a key bowler taking 2 wickets in 2 balls. Sadly the batters we dropped had already put on a very good stand. After the allotted 25 overs they were 184 for 6.  Unfortunately we were two players short which made fielding a challenge on a full size outfield but the boys really stuck at it. . We lost Ned (Y11)  early which was a blow. Ali (U6) batted over cautiously which put a lot of pressure on Rory (Y11) and Freddie who gave it a great go. We lost Rory  for 43 which brought Kai(L6) to the wicket. He tried very hard to chase their score, but Freddie ended up 18 not out Kai 10 not out.  Despite great performances by Kai, Rory,  Ali, Jonah, Ned and Freddie we lost the game by 17 runs. It was a disappointing result, however the lads showed great fight and worked hard in the field.

U15s vs Churcher's Home

Our Y10 boys enjoyed an excellent high scoring and winning game, with some fine bowling by Arlo and Edison (Y10).Churcher's got off to a flying start but were pegged back by some fine bowling by Arlo and Edison. Unfortunately, the efforts with the ball were not always backed up by our fielding and we allowed Churchers to get to 152-5 from their 20 overs. The pick of the bowlers was Edison B with figures of 2-21 from his 4 overs. In reply, Oscar V and Zach H put on 49 for the first wicket and this was followed up by another strong partnership of 55 from Oscar and Edison. Whilst wickets started to fall at the other end, Oscar stepped up and showed his class, playing one of the most controlled innings I have seen from an U15 and fittingly reached his 100 at the same time as hitting the winning runs, to finish 103* off 64 balls and sealing a victory by 6 wickets. A huge thank you must also go to Leo, who stepped in to help field for us when we only had 10 players, and to Charles who played despite an injury.

U12 vs Churcher's Away

Another win for our Y7’s. After the first couple of overs, it was clear that the opposition were not as strong as other teams faced and so Isaac, (the captain), chose to give those that had not had the opportunity to bowl quite as many overs in matches, the chance. We managed to bowl the opposition out for 57 runs, with notably impressive stats from Oscar of 3 wickets for 0 runs and Matteo of 3 wickets for just 8 runs. Batting went very well and our openers, Isaac and Rhys knocked off the required runs in just 7 overs. At that point the boys had won by 9 wickets but the coaches agreed to continue to play for a further 5 overs and the final run tally was 122 from just 13 overs; Freddie managed to hit 2 sixes and Alex hit some strong boundaries Batting went very well and our openers, Isaac and Rhys knocked off the required runs in just 7 overs. Some strong performances by Alex and Freddie. Well done boys!

U13s vs Churcher's Away

Under perfect cricket weather the U13 boys won the toss and elected to bat first. Good calling and fast running between the wicket soon put the opposition under pressure with Charlie particularly strong with an inspired captain's knock of 17. The middle order each scored quick runs but wickets fell at regular intervals until a 10th wicket stand of 35 ensured that Ryde finished on 111 for 10 (Ridgwell unbeaten on 14)  With the ball Ryde started brightly, the pace of Kensei soon took effect (2 - 13) but the spin of Sam P and Patrick ripped through the middle order to leave Churcher's short of the final target. Special mention goes to Patrick for his excellent fielding throughout the match.

U14s vs Churcher's Away

On a glorious sunny day, Ryde won the toss and elected to field.  The opening batters for Churcher's set off at quite a rate scoring 16 in the first over but Ryde started to find their length and the run rate slowed.  Some excellent bowling saw Ryde take 8 wickets in 25 overs, 2 for Emma, George and Hugo and 2 maidens from Dan. Ryde struggled with the bat initially, the Churcher's captain and county player took 2 very quick wickets, but they stuck at it, but great work from Sasha and James made it look like it was going to be a close finish, unfortunately 4 quick wickets gave Churcher's the edge.  With a stubborn batting performance from Emma, Ryde finished on 109 all out after 20 overs.Everyone played well,  especially Ed and Elliot who came in at the last minute.

Girls U12 V Churcher's Home

The U12 girls played a highly-competitive match on Saturday. There was some skilled bowling from all players, particularly Bella and Amelie who got 6 out of the 8 wickets between them. There was some great batting where Maya scored the first 6 of the match! However, the Churcher's team created some tough competition forcing us to up our game in the second innings after beating us by 1 point in the first. Shout out to Anna, Bella and Grace for impressive technique and power. Great job, girls!

Girls U15 V Churcher's Home

The U15 girls came up against a strong and well prepared Churcher's team. Some accurate bowling and a few wickets kept Churcher's to a reasonable total of 334 with particularly strong bowling from Poppy. Ryde came out to bat with clear intent but Churchers were clearly well drilled in fielding and made boundaries hard to come by. With wickets falling early Ryde fought hard to keep the scoreboard ticking over but lost wickets meant they never quite caught up with Churcher's despite some huge hitting from Ava. Final result: Churcher's victory by 51 runs. A good effort all round from the Y10’s, as they were hampered at the outset by being a player down. A sad loss but with some excellent work from Poppy and Ava.

Girls U13 V Churcher's - Away

The U13 girls travelled to Churcher' s on Saturday and had a superb performance. Ryde batted first with exceeding results from Fenella with five 4’s and one 6 in one over. the girls continued to excel in batting getting 157 runs and churchers ending on 13, moving on to fielding rong rong made an excellent performance getting a golden duck (out on there first ball) with Poppy and Fenella following with a maiden wicket, and great catches from all the girls including Harriet and Talia that caught 6 balls between them. A great winning match with brilliant performances from Poppy, Fennella, Harriet and Talia.

U14 A team The Y9 girls battled for a great win.U14 A team girls began pairs batting with an amazing score from Tabitha and Bella, many 4s and a 6 from Tabitha. Batting total ended on 94 of 20 overs.
