Introducing our Sixth Form Team

#FridayIntroduction with our Sixth Form Team, Mr Windsor, Mrs McCue, Mr Shapland & Mrs Youlten.

Head of Sixth Form, Matt Windsor is in charge of all Sixth Form students, teaches Geography & runs Gold DofE. Prior to Ryde, Matt taught overseas in the Middle East & North Africa “the best part is being in a position where I can advise on future pathways & help students with the tricky transition from children to young adults”.

Assistant Head of Sixth Form Wanda Youlten works alongside Matt & is second in charge of English (Senior). Prior to Ryde, Wanda taught in Scotland & loves the multifaceted nature of her role “every day is different, not without challenge, but very rewarding”.

Sixth Form Coordinator Sophie McCue ensures smooth running of Sixth Form, looks after the team, coordinates UCAS, organises day-to-day & annual events, plus our weekly newsletter.

Director of Learning David Shapland has several roles; Director of Studies for Sixth Form; Coordinator of IB Diploma, IB Careers Related Programme & quality nominee for BTEC, “I work with students helping them to think about how they learn rather than what they learn”. Before Ryde, David was Dean of Studies at a school in Australia, “I enjoy working in schools with an honest & personal relationship between teachers, pupils & parents”.

The Sixth Form team aim to make sure students reach full academic potential & leave school as lovely people who are kind, thoughtful, happy & contribute fully to society on a local & global scale. Our Sixth Form has a real sense of collaboration between the staff, students, tutors & parents. Matt added, “our students are open minded, listen to advice & adapt better than any adults I know”.

We asked their favourite place on the Island, Sophie’s is her beach hut in St Helens, David said Sailing in Yarmouth. Matt chose Luccombe Bay & Wanda chose Brook Beach.
