Celebrating Chinese New Year at Ryde School

Celebrating Chinese New Year at Ryde School
Whole School Languages

Today marks the start of the Lunar New Year Celebrations. Across the school, students have been learning all about the celebration. Starting in Pre-Prep, two of our lovely Year 2 pupils held an assembly talking all about the Lunar New Year traditions.

As 2024 is the Year of the Dragon, Prep School pupils made dragon masks and discussed their Chinese zodiac animals.

In Senior School mandarin classes, students have discovered various traditions, and have made their own red envelopes, dressed in traditional Chinese clothes, made lanterns and practised Chinese calligraphy. Our Year 11 pupils revised the themes of festivals; working hard to understand Chinese Poetry. They also tried different Chinese snacks, from tea sweets to pineapple cakes.

The Languages Department wish you a Happy New Year of the Dragon - 龙年快乐(long nián kuài lè), 2024!
