Ryde School Sailors Crowned Champions at BSDRA Melges 15 Regatta
Ryde School sailors have achieved a stunning victory at the BSDRA Melges 15 Pairs regatta in Burnham on Crouch, with one team being crowned champions after a thrilling final race. Great team work, courage and ambition were on display as the sailors navigated fairly light winds and a heavy tide, making racing highly challenging due to the big currents.
Ryde School entered two boats; ‘Ryde and Seek’ and ‘Ryde on Time’ with eight great sailors across the boats. Jasper J, Cori M, Will H and Laura B-P raced in Ryde and Seek and claimed multiple first, seconds and thirds across the weekend which was an outstanding achievement. Will H and Laura B-P finished fifth in the Blue fleet, with Jasper J and Cori M finished second in the Yellow fleet resulting in fourth overall.
‘Ryde on Time’, crewed by Oli S, Ellie B, Finley M-L and Charlotte C, sailed well, achieving first and second places in their races, leaving them in second place for day one. Day two saw, Finley and Charlotte sail smoothly, placing consistently in the top five, allowing ‘Ryde on Time’ to move closer to first place. Oli and Ellie also kept their average score low, which enabled ‘Ryde on Time’ to slip into first place. The entire event came down to a nail-biting final race. Finley M and Charlotte C led the fleet around the course brilliantly to secure a decisive race win. Oli and Ellie claimed second overall in their division. Their combined score clinched the overall victory for 'Ryde on Time' being placed first overall, winning the regatta.
The sailors should be immensely proud of their achievements. with many race officials complimenting them on their outstanding etiquette and sportsmanship on the water. Congratulations to both teams on a hugely successful weekend.
